BioChem Lab Building Renovation Phase I
State of Colorado Department of Agriculture, Denver, CO

EMC evaluated multiple options and recommended the approved option for HVAC upgrades. EMC prepared the construction documents (drawings, specifications, cost estimates, design analysis) and performed construction services for the renovation of the HVAC system and installation of Cross Connection Control/Back Flow Prevention at the Colorado Department of Agriculture BioChemistry Laboratory Building.

The project upgraded most of the roof-top HVAC equipment, and most of the laboratory exhaust fans. The HVAC upgrade replaced existing roof-top multi-zone units (MZU) with new MZUs. Numerous laboratory exhaust fans were removed and the exhaust air streams were combined into two larger exhaust systems. The new exhaust systems exhaust at 3000 feet-per-minute velocity and are located to prevent recirculation of exhausted air into the outside air intake of the new MZUs. Direct digital controls (DDC) were included in the MZUs.

Preliminary sizing, design and cost estimates were prepared to provide an emergency engine generator (EG) to support portions of the HVAC equipment when normal utility source power fails. The Project also included cross-connection and backflow prevention in the BioChem Lab Building and at the Measurement Standards Building.
